newspapers in certain markets around the world concerning cruise
ship employment.
The misleading
job advertisements provide specifics such as a fax number and
e-mail address where applicants can send a resume to apply for a
shipboard position. Applicants may be contacted via telephone,
advised that they have been hired by Starboard Cruise Services,
and asked to wire money to “cover the costs toward a deposit."
Unfortunately, the funds are retained by the perpetrators of the
fraudulent scheme.
